Investigation of Novel Nano-carbide WC/CoCr Coatings Applied by HVAF

Abstract Wear leads to high material and energy losses in various industries. The manufacturing of novel nano-carbide WC/CoCr powder feedstock materials promises a further increase the performance thermally sprayed wear protection coatings. A experimental commercial ultra-fine carbide reference are onto 1.0038 substrate by High Velocity Air Fuel (HVAF) spraying. specimens metallographically prepared analyzed means light microscopy (LM) scanning electron (SEM). Vickers Hardness testing is conducted micro-indentation, porosities determined optical image analysis. X-ray diffractometry (XRD) analysis used investigate phase retention. Fine nanocrystalline WC structures preserved dense significant effect type on porosity coating was found. No systematic relationships could be identified between structure two parameter settings. It possible influence decarburization via both selected parameters. resulting nanostructured coatings exhibit high, narrow hardness values with medians 1.400 < HV0.3 1.470. can contribute reduced therefore improve efficient utilization critical raw like tungsten.
